The Art & Design Department are situated in a designated teaching area. The course encourages a creative approach to textile design with an emphasis on Fashion, covering the creative, commercial and technical aspects of the industry. Many former students have gone on to build successful careers in the Fashion industry and this A Level is designed to give students a head start.

During the first year students work on assignments, each one exploring a different aspect of Fashion and Textiles, including:

  • Exploring other designers’ work and ideas
  • Examining major historical design styles and movements

  • Considering fashion from a commercial perspective

In the second year, students focus on a specialist area. This could be Menswear Design, Styling, Journalism, Millinery, Contour Design, Costume Design, Fashion Illustration and Photography, Fine Art Textiles or Surface Pattern Design.

Fashion & Textiles students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of experiences. In recent years, these have included:

  • trips to art and fashion exhibitions in London, Brighton and Oxford.
  • residential Art and Media trips to New York, Paris, Florence and Venice.

The Art & Design Department works closely as a team in a friendly and co-operative manner. Strong emphasis is given to mutual support by the exchange of ideas and materials and thus the co-operative construction of Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans.

This post is suitable both for experienced teachers or newly qualified teachers. Above all, we are seeking someone with an excellent knowledge of Fashion & Textiles and the ability to make the subject come alive for our students. The person appointed must be confident in the use of Information Technology in all aspects of their work.

The percentage of full-time is between 76.19% (16 periods per week) and 85.71% (18 periods per week). Applications will be considered on arrival and interviews are expected to take place on Thursday 24 May 2018.

When completing their application, candidates are asked to indicate their results (A*-B grades, retention, value added), as well as particular strengths, experiences and interests that they would bring to this post itself and more generally to College life outside of their teaching commitment.

Reigate College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
