About this Organisation

DT teacher Vacancy

From: 1st September 2023

Salary: M1 – UPS3 (outer London)

A TLR is available for a suitable qualified and experienced candidate, to develop stem projects in the school.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed teacher of Design and Technology who has high expectations of students and themselves and who will motivate and inspire pupils to achieve their best. However, we would consider an unqualified candidate with a relevant degree, who may be considering a teaching career in the future. Support and training will be offer.

The Latymer School is an oversubscribed high achieving, but caring Grammar School in North London. Visitors comment on the warm atmosphere and the high levels of participation in extracurricular activities that encourage students to foster and nurture their skills and interests beyond the confines of the curriculum. We are proud of our inclusive school community and there is a real passion for teaching and learning in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere that inspires risk-taking and creativity. As a school, we are committed to developing the whole person and it is a place where you can really engage students in their learning and develop as a teacher.

We are looking for someone who would enjoy working with highly motivated, intellectually curious students at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 and is comfortable delivering a wide range of DT areas, primarily timbers and electronics, but also plastics and metals, and including some food and textiles. NQTs and experienced teachers are invited to apply. The ideal candidate will have electronics expertise, as we are looking to expand in this area of the curriculum, including the use of Arduino and other programmable components. The ability to teach A level is essential. An understanding of basic engineering (levers, gears, pulleys etc) would be desirable.

Technology is a very popular subject at both GCSE and A level, which was reintroduced in September 2022. We have a group of 18 in year 12 and are expecting high numbers next year. The students are passionate about their work and therefore the ability to teach A level would be an advantage. The departments exam results are consistently high, with our latest results July 2022 being 100% grades 7-9, 70% grade 9. These results are the highest in the country of schools that do Edexcel Design and Technology.

If you would like to work in a friendly environment, then we would like to hear from you.
